A graduate of Harvard College with a bachelor’s degree in physical science, Dr. Deborah Markowitz earned a medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. She then completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital, followed by several years of subspecialty training in Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Deborah Markowitz served for nine years as an assistant professor at UMass-Memorial Hospital University Campus, were she taught medical residents and critical care and pulmonary fellows, in addition to attending in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. During that time she served as Medical Director of UMass’ long term acute care unit at Fairlawn in Worcester, MA. In addition to her clinical and teaching positions, Dr. Markowitz has authored multiple critical care textbook chapters and review articles, as well as written reviews as an editor with CHEST, a peer-reviewed medical journal.

She then served as medical director of Leonard Morse Hospital, MetroWest Medical Center in the Boston, MA, suburb of Natick. Since 2004, Dr. Deborah Markowitz has founded her own company of Pulmonary Associates of MetroWest, P.C. She is board-certified in critical care medicine as well as pulmonary medicine. In order to stay up-to-date in her field, Dr. Markowitz maintains affiliation with professional organizations like the American College of Chest Physicians.
